The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is an energy assessment and savings scheme established by the ESOS Regulations in 2014.
The scheme applies to large undertakings or groups containing these, in the UK.
You must take part in ESOS if your organisation qualifies as a large undertaking, i.e. employs more than 250 people or has an annual turnover of €50 million (£38,937,777), by the qualification date of 31st of December 2014.
If your organisation qualifies, you must participate in ESOS and notify compliance to the Environmental Agency by the last date of each compliance period, the first one of which has just passed on the 5th of December 2015.
If you don’t have an ISO 50001 energy management system in place which covers all your energy use, you must carry out an ESOS assessment and calculate your total energy consumption. This includes combustible fuels, heat, renewables and electricity.
During the ESOS energy audit, cost-effective energy efficiency improvements must be recommended with regard to your energy consumption.
We at BioNova can assist with these improvements through the utilisation of our various biomass, biogas and waste to energy systems, which we supply and fit throughout the UK.
